"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, PLEASE WELCOME TONIGHT'S DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER, CARROT TOP
You are robbing yourself of one of the quintessential New York experiences if you don’t check out the speaker program at the 92nd Street YMCA. It’s one of the most profound examples of the diversity of life in New York City. There’s something for everyone and the guest lecturers range from Morley Safer to Howie Mandel and Elie Wiesel and the topics run the gamut from “For The Love of Chocolate,” to” Charting Your Hormone Options” to “The Future of Islam.” Talk about a great first date. Or surprise your spouse and don’t tell him/her where you’re going. Image the “brownie points” you’ll accumulate when the cab pulls up to the 92nd Street Y… What a way to spend an evening!

Remember Tim Blake Nelson from Syriana or Oh Brother Where Art Thou? Well, Tim’s a multi-tasker. He’s also an accomplished director , author and producer. He has an off broadway play opening tonight. Eye of God officially opens at The Kirk Theatre on Theatre Row following previews that began Oct. 2.
“In Kingfisher, Oklahoma, an innocent young woman meets a strong man of faith,” according to press notes. “A young boy witnesses a brutal murder. Where is the line between moral and radical? A love story between the lonely, the troubled, the forgotten and the radical believer who can save them.”

Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Neil Simon is back on Broadway Oct. 2 with the first preview of his 1983 autobiographical play Brighton Beach Memoirs, at the Nederlander Theatre. The cast will feature Santino Fontana, Laurie Metcalf and newcomer Noah Robbins among its players. Brighton Beach officially opens on October 25th at the David T. Nederlander Theatre, located at 208 West 41st Street, NY.

"I NEED A CLONAPIN AND A BIG CAN OF FOSTER'S LAGER..."
Cell phones really are becoming the scourge of live theater performances everywhere and there doesn’t seem to be a solution-especially since the offending parties seem to be mortified and never reach for their phones to shut them off for fear that the audience will tar and feather them. Hugh holds it together well here but definitely looks as though he wants to dive into the audience and get them in a headlock, just like he used to do to his brother growing up in Australia.
Ugh! I stood had such high hopes to see Twelfth Night last night in Central Park!! I got tickets intthe early afternoon after choosing NOT to see it the day before! The weather held all day until rain came down a bit at 7pm, still looked good for my theater night! I stood outside Delacort Theater waiting in the rain that teased out with stopages only to resume in buckets!!
Eventually the wait had gone on too long and Delacorte Theater had to let us go! No Shakespeare In The Park last night!!
Read the New York Times Report!
Broadway Tickets are cheap this weekend. Maybe becuase its Father’s Day weekend! Wicked Tickets are under $115 each for both Satuday shows and Sunday as well!!
Barack Obama showed he is man who knows how to keep a marriage together by making good on a promise to his wife Michelle. The President had promised his wife during the campaign that he would take her to New York for dinner and a a Broadway show.
The Obamas broke from their Friday evening date-night tradition and hopped flight to New York City Saturday afternoon. The President and Mrs. Obama dined at Blue Hill Restaurant in the West Village. After that they went off to Times Square to watch the Saturday evening performance of “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”.
“Joe Turner’s Come and Gone”, set in 1911, tells the story of a black American, Herald Loomis who, after serving seven years hard labor, journeys to the industrialized North with his daughter and arrives at a Pittsburgh boarding house. The play centers is fullof Loomis’ recollectionof his migration and the memorable characters who aid him in his search for inner freedom.

Although profits were hurt by the 19 day long stagehand strike, Broadway showed a slight increase in receipts in the 2008-09 theater season! Paid attendance was down 1% this year but a $6 million increase in gross receipts prevails!
As soon as I heard about new Yasmina Reza’s play, God of Carnage, I could not wait to see it. I saw her art years back. You cannot forget it. On top of the exciting prospect of seeing her new play, I was fascinated with the incredible set of Aces in the production: James Gandolfini, Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels and Marcia Gay Brown. I was a little puzzled with the idea of bringing together four such powerful actors and how to prevent them from overpowering each other on stage.
Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? It is LIFE. It is everything that surrounds us and it is funny, tragic, dramatic and REAL. The problems raised in this wonderful play are so realistic, that I cannot see anybody in our society who could not relate to some of the issues one way or another.
The ensemble of actors performed like a well-oiled machine, from the first dialogue to the last. You could not say who was better, because they worked as a wonderful, flawless team.
I am especially pleased with work of James Gandolfini. He did not stand out even though I expected it knowing his previous part in The Sopranos. He was a part of the quartet, not a soloist. Wonderful job, James!
Hope Davis was so gracious and kind, she came out from the back door after the show to sign the autographs. She thanked everybody for coming! On request from one of the fans, she recited her last sentences.
Thank you God of Carnage production team for the wonderful time and memories that will be with me for years to come!
God of Carnage currently will run though August at Jacobs Theater in Times Square, New York.
Have you seen the Broadway Play Wicked? I read the book as well. Check out this cookie. It tasted good after it was done with the photo shoot! Poor cookie
