A little over a week ago we launched our new kids blog, Kids In The City! It’s purpose is to record the day trips and adventures in New York from a child’s perspective. My kids are permitted to choose the venue they want to see. After we arrive back home they blog about their experience from their own point of view, highlighted the good, the bad and the ugly as only a kid can! We add photos when we can! Please check out our kids activities section and send us your suggestions and reviews!!

Metrony.com NY Day Trip

Last Tuesday (election day) we went to Rice’s Flea Market near Peddler’s Village in Bucks County, PA. This flea is open on Tuesdays, Saturdays and select holidays. On Tuesdays there are many more vendors present.

Rice’s has a lot of stores from the New Hope area selling overstock and store returns. This is a great place to buy discount name brand clothes, hand bags and accessories as well as the knock off versions. It pays to look around the entire market first as products can vary widely in price.

Fresh flowers, fruits and veggies and landscaping plants are here too!

In Solebury Orchards in Pennsylvania, you can pick apples, pears, cranberries and pumpkins to name a few. The orchards are very big and have all kinds of fruit. When you go picking the apples or pears, you get taken there by tractor drawn wagon. The trees get many apples that are ripe by early fall. There are 3 kinds of apples they grow in Solebury Orchards, they are, keepsakes, brae burns and fuji apples. The apples get very big and are tart and sweet. Brae burn apples are good for pies. The keepsake apples are plump and juicy. Fuji apples are sweet and make good snacks.

Today’s Day Trip

Today we drove to Shady Brook Farm in Yardley, PA. It is just 1.5 hours from NYC. There we chose pumpkins from the market as we had already been to a flea market and apple picking in nearby New Hope. We bought 3 pumpkins and went home after a long day.

Today we traveled to went apple picking at Solebury Orchard in New Hope, PA. I took my 3 children and one friend. The orchard gave us a tractor ride to the tree. We pocked 3 kinds of apples. We chose to walk back to the scales, paid for our apples, bought cider and hopped back in the car.

This past Sunday I rode in the 28th Annual CBBC Covered Bridges Ride hosted by the The Central Bucks Bike Club. The ride took place in Tinicum Park, Erwinna, Bucks County, PA. I rode the 50 mile leg with 3 friends. Another guy in our opted for the 30 mile route since he was not equipped for the 30-ish degree temperatures at the start.

This beautiful bike route sent us though 6 historic covered bridges in Bucks County, PA. With over 2,500 riders, many people had stayed over night in hotels and traveled from all over the east coast to participate in this annual event.
