As soon as I heard about new Yasmina Reza’s play, God of Carnage, I could not wait to see it. I saw her art years back. You cannot forget it. On top of the exciting prospect of seeing her new play, I was fascinated with the incredible set of Aces in the production: James Gandolfini, Hope Davis, Jeff Daniels and Marcia Gay Brown. I was a little puzzled with the idea of bringing together four such powerful actors and how to prevent them from overpowering each other on stage.
Is it a comedy? Is it a drama? It is LIFE. It is everything that surrounds us and it is funny, tragic, dramatic and REAL. The problems raised in this wonderful play are so realistic, that I cannot see anybody in our society who could not relate to some of the issues one way or another.
The ensemble of actors performed like a well-oiled machine, from the first dialogue to the last. You could not say who was better, because they worked as a wonderful, flawless team.
I am especially pleased with work of James Gandolfini. He did not stand out even though I expected it knowing his previous part in The Sopranos. He was a part of the quartet, not a soloist. Wonderful job, James!
Hope Davis was so gracious and kind, she came out from the back door after the show to sign the autographs. She thanked everybody for coming! On request from one of the fans, she recited her last sentences.
Thank you God of Carnage production team for the wonderful time and memories that will be with me for years to come!
God of Carnage currently will run though August at Jacobs Theater in Times Square, New York.
Have you seen the Broadway Play Wicked? I read the book as well. Check out this cookie. It tasted good after it was done with the photo shoot! Poor cookie
Add Shrek The Musical to the list of Things for Kids to Do in NY. Shrek is a Broadway Show based on a combination of the film and William Steig’s book, Shrek!. This cute musical opened in December and has been a hot Broadway ticket ever since. Never fear! We got a deal on tickets on a Tuesday ($89). Sometimes the tickets can be quite reasonable on a Sunday afternoon. The rates for low end seats can be close to $200 if you go for the popular Saturday Matinee. It pays to shop the price.
